When Casey at Elegant Musings posted that she wanted to do a blog tour of fellow collectors, I jumped on the chance. I have so many little collections that I love to add to, but I knew right away that I wanted to dedicate this post to my two favorite accessories: Hats and gloves. As a milliner it's hard not to have a love for hats and want to add as many as you can to your collection. I love to pick hats up and study their construction, but most of all I love to wear them! It reminds me of a time when hat shops took pride in construction and detail; when ladies at home revamped or built their own hats; and a time when from head to toe people cared about what they were wearing.
So here it goes...(Oh and I'm sure I have so many more tucked away in corners)
The following group of hats are a few of the ones I have built myself:
I also love gloves. And although I find them difficult to wear at times...how did a lady go out of the house with this accessory everyday and function? I just love the subtle details, the different types of gloves based on their use and the remembrance of a time long gone. Most of my glove collection, and a lot of my hats for that matter, came from my lovely co-worker who has had many of these cherished items stored away.
And to end this post I'd like to prove that I actually do wear these items out and about with some photos of me at different events:
what a wonderful collection! I just love that you really do wear them!
ReplyDeleteOh I love these! I have one set of gorgeous "reproduction" crochet gloves I purchased but I don't know what era they are from. I adore hats but can't afford the gorgeous ones so I am playing milliner of the 18th century to the present!

What a wonderful collection of hats and gloves.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid in the early 60s we wore hats and gloves. But then that was when people dressed up to go places and celebrate things.
Great that you wear yours. They are so pretty.
Lovely collections. You have so many colourful hats and gloves that it almost makes me envious. I collect them too but since I only acquire my items from local thrift shops the colours tend to be black, brown and beige. And when it comes to gloves, ivory, cream and white. In Finland the colour palette was much more subtle and muted than Europe and America.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
What a nice collection! I collect hats too and every now and then make my own as well. I also have a small collection of gloves...And I actually wear both too at times when I go out dressed in vintage/retro. It's nice to know that there are others who do the same!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Amazing hat collection. I adore it!
ReplyDeleteYou look so cute! I've never worn gloves and hats together unless it's to keep warm. Great collections!
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! I love these hats! I make hats for my dolls every so often and until recently I thought I couldn't wear hats much. I thought they wouldn't look good on me. Lo and behold, a haircut later and I look like a doll myself in cute feminine fedoras. Thanks so much for posting! I need to make some hats for myself now in true vintage style!
