I couldn't resist some lemon yellow eyelet that was on sale at Joann's the other day. I attempted to make a dress with it but wasn't really happy with the bodice. So I just did a gathered skirt and have plans to do a blouse using the yellow for trim. I think this is a much better plan since I will eventually have a skirt set with the option of using the two pieces separately...as I've done with the skirt for this post.
This is so cute! I really like the blue and yellow combination. :]
ReplyDeleteVery cute - I also like the cheery color combination!

Love the skirt - did you make it without a pattern and if so how?

Elizabeth - Yes I made my skirt without a pattern. Normally for a gathered skirt I'd take my hip measurement times 3, in this case I only had 2 1/2 yards, so its not as full as I'd usually make it. I determine the length(plus seam allowance and hem) and just cut out a big rectangle...so this was 90" x 26 1/2"(I didn't have to include hem since it has a finished edge already). I seamed the Center back together, leaving room for a zipper, then gather the top edge. Put a zipper in. I made a waistband, which was 3 1/2" wide by my waist measurement plus 2 1/2"(which gives me 1/2 seam allowance on one edge and 2" on the other to make a tab for my closure). Attach those two pieces together, finish up with all my closures and tada! I have a skirt...easy as pie.
ReplyDeleteSo, so pretty! :) I actually like that you used the eyelet to make a skirt, rather than dress--it's a bit less "usual" (if you know what I mean... ;) and I dare say will be worn a lot because it's a separate! Plus it's such a cheerful color. :)
